Newfound website- Navajo Word of the Day
I’ve come across a relatively new Navajo site this week. It is a Navajo Word of The Day website. The site is just that, a Navajo word every day along with literal translations in English and a little more info. Nothing really extensive, but really useful.
What I really like is the ‘literal translation’. At least for me, I like to know what combinations of words makes up a specific word in Navajo. Knowing these literal translations help build my vocabulary.
I’ve contacted the creators of the site and they says that, “the site is meant to be an easy way of providing both a simple definition and also bits of cultural insight.” Cultural insight like differences in the usage of a particular Navajo word in New Mexico versus Arizona, for example Yas & Zas.
It would be awesome if there were a few seconds of audio to accompany each post to pronounce the word-of-the-day. The site is still pretty new so more perks could possibly in the works. But so far I am loving the layout, the info, and frequency.
You can visit the site at www.NavajoWOTD.com, they also have a twitter account @NavajoWOTD. I would personally suggest to follow regularly add the site to your RSS Feed and even add it your Anki deck for retention.
This is so cool!!…thanks for sharing. I am more fluent in reading in Navajo and interpreting what people say to me in Navajo. I know how to speak some Navajo, but would still like to learn more. I would love to use this more and also as a tool for my sons to learn to speak also. Thanks so much!!
thank you so much for uploading this website I wouldn’t have learn how to relearn my language this so so helpful.
This is a good idea thank you very much.
