Navajo Toddler – iPhone/iPod App
5.2020 Functional. HOWEVER! The pictures no longer match the text at the bottom. This can be confusing. The quiz function seems to be working properly.
I just so happened to be looking at the different options for Navajo apps in the Apple store the other day and saw that the Navajo Toddler app was for free. So I downloaded it.
I love the set-up for this app. It is simple and playful. Nothing boxy or official looking. Just a lot of cartoon pictures with Navajo audio for each object.
There are categories for Numbers, Food, Body, Animals, Colors, and Phrases. There are about 8-10 objects for every category which accompany the correct Navajo spelling and audio pronunciation. Although this app is targeted toward children, I was still able to learn a new word or two.
Since I first looked at the Navajo Toddler app there has been an update. This update has a “play” option where a Navajo word and audio is given…the user will then have to choose the correct object that matches. It’s actually kind of fun. This should be enjoyable for children.
If you are an adult at an intermediate level of Navajo, you won’t get much out of this app. It really is for beginners, young or old.
There are indications that the creator will add future lessons. I would like to see the current categories expanded a bit, although other categories would be fun as well. Either way I can’t wait to see what they add next.
This is all the rage! Navajo Times interviewed me and.. I also got an email from the founders of this app!! My 1 year old uses this and so far she loves it. http://youtu.be/lqEOmX7qUiY
