Navajo Now made The Navajo Times newspaper!

July 21, 2011

This week The Navajo Times published an article on my Navajo Now blog. It has taken a few weeks to be interviewed and provide other information to get the article finally ready. Thank you to Carmenlita (NT reporter) for her interest and the work she put into telling the Navajo Nation about my work here.

There is so much I want to be able to accomplish and help provide for others who are learning to speak Navajo. Quite a few of my ideas involve getting the Navajo speaking population involved in the process. Hopefully, this will spark some ingenuity and allow for more collaboration between speaking and non-speaking Navajo individuals. I would especially like to see learning communities for communication between all students of the Navajo language.

A digital copy of the article is available here at The Navajo Times website. I am very pleased with how this was put together, there was so much information that I provided Carmenlita. She’s done a great job.

If you live in AZ, NM, UT, or CO and don’t know where to get a newspaper copy of this weeks edition… check the Where to Find the Navajo Times link on The Navajo Times website.

I admire your passion. I also can relate as my first language was Navajo but when I began school, I mostly spoke English. And unfortunately I do not have familial resources like my grandmothers, they have long passed on. I have returned home to reconnect my cultural ties. Especially since I have two young children. So while I am home I want to absorb, establish ties and learn as much as I can or at least open doors to my Navajo roots. Thank you. And if you need any help, I may be of help.

Way to go with reconnecting. I want to get to know more of the cultural aspect, but I think I will understand more when I have a better handle on the language. Thank you for your offer to help, I have a few mini experiments I want to try, so please keep posted. I would be delighted for you to participate. =)
